International School of Phnom Penh

ISPP as it’s commonly known, is a private, non-profit coeducational English-language day school has been in existence for a remarkable 20 years. An International Baccalaureate (IB) School, it is externally authorized by the IB as well as by the Council of International Schools (CIS) in Europe and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in the US.

ISPP has also developed school-wide General Learning Targets (GLTs) to demonstrate to parents what its students are expected to know and be capable of achieving at each grade level.

Its programme covers Early Years to Grade 12: a Primary Years Programme (PYP) for Kindergarten through Grade 5; IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) for Grades 6 through 10; and the two-year, pre-college, IB Diploma in Grades 11 and 12.

The school is located in central Phnom Penh on a rather crowded campus housed in slightly cramped buildings it inherited when it took over the site. There have been plans to move to a new purpose-build facility but so far this has failed to materialise.

Nevertheless the school has a strong community spirit and a generally supportive atmosphere for its charges. However an education there doesn’t come cheap.

Hope International School

If you really want to protect your progeny from the evils of a secular education thereby ensuring they never question whether Jesus really did walk on water, then this could be the place for you and yours. Hope caters especially for the children of the numerous Christian soldiers marching as to war amidst the heathens here in Cambodia. The curriculum is based upon “clearly defined, progressive learning objectives” but these are imbued with a “biblical world view” (presumably, no mention of evolution). The school is accredited by the University of Cambridge International Examination Centre and offers the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Advanced Subsidiary Level Qualifications (AS Level). Instruction is exclusively in the Lord’s English. Hope has a boarding facility.
